what to leave in 2014

After a long hiatus from my blog, I can officially say, “I’m baaaaack!” And I am so excited for the New Year! I apologize to all of my friends for the long break. Getting married, a full time job, along with the tasks that follow getting married are all a big to do that I underestimated greatly. However, all of that is behind me now and I am ready to start blogging religiously!
What better way to start out a new year by executing a closet revamping? I found myself unpacking all of my winter garb and wondering, “is this still ok?” or even worse, “what was I thinking when I bought this?!”. It’s natural for a person to go through their wardrobe after it being out of site for months and wonder, “who was that person that thought some of these wardrobe choices were on point?”
So, here are some of the things I am getting rid of in my closet that maybe you agree with!
Throw away the waffle, fringed infinity scarf: while it was cute in its prime, I recently went through my closet, found my old scarf and realized it looked like something that went through the paper shredder at work. It’s tired, it’s old, and it’s a contradiction in itself. It has holes in it, so how is it logically a scarf that it is meant to keep one’s neck warm?
Instead try a faux fur snood: The snood is much like an infinity scarf, only it goes on your neck and doesn’t loop around the way an infinity scarf does. This is an extremely chic alternative to actually keeping your neck warm during this solar vortex that’s headed our way this winter.
Throw away brightly printed leggings: While the bright leggings of 2014 were a fun pop of color during a time when muted colors are it, it’s just too 80’s for the upcoming New Year.
Instead try track pants or solid textured leggings: I am loving the track pant trend this season. It’s a comfy alternative for jeans and it can be such an elegant, hip look if worn correctly. You can find many variations of this trend at Forever 21. A good solid colored textured legging may bring you back to your days as a kid in an itchy dress at Christmas Eve church service, but trust me, it’s a muted way to stay warm, but still look like a classic beauty.
Throw away Aztec printed waterfall cardigan: This was a trend that was meant to be bohemian chic, but turned wrong when the Aztec print turned multicolored. It’s a lot like the brightly printed legging…too much 80’s, not enough modernism. It’s time to say RIP to your bright waterfall cardi.
Instead try an oversized coat: An oversized coat is so “it” right now. If you haven’t noticed a pattern in the coming future, the 70’s and 80’s trends that have dominated the fashion world are on their way out, and it’s back to the chic, clean cut look of the late 50’s – early 60’s (think Jackie O).
Maybe this blog inspired you to clean out your closet or just treat yourself to some new goodies to fill it with!
Thanks for reading!
xx,
Jordan
