2014 Summer Wardrobe Staples

When we hear the words “wardrobe staples”, a lineup of boring things come to mind: cardigan, a pair of dress jeans, a nice blouse, are just some of the things we’ve all seen in magazines or read online in articles. However, there is no reason that closet staples can’t be fun. After all, none of us have much anxiety over choosing what to wear to work; it’s the social gatherings that make us say “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!”

Some wardrobe staples that are my favorites this summer are:

The Boyfriend Jean: skinny jeans are fantastic when there is an abundance of AC and cool weather, but your favorite pair of skinnies are just not a realistic idea in 100 degree weather. The boyfriend jean is a fun alternative. These are loose fitting (although not too loose) jeans that are supposed to look like you stole them from your boyfriend’s closet and there are TONS of ways to wear them:

  • Rip ‘em up: tear those bad boys up. Rhianna’s distressed boyfriend jeans look was on the lips of every fashionista for a week after she was photographed in this outfit.

  • Business on top, party on the bottom: Pair your boyfriend-esque denim with a blazer and pumps. Trust me, it works!

  • Embrace your inner tomboy: why not pair your boyfriend jeans with your boyfriend shoes? Wear your boyfriend jeans with a pair of converse and an oversized white t-shirt (but don’t forget your face, too much boy and you may look like you’re taking the walk of shame – not cute).

The Gladiator Sandal: I’m so obsessed with this look this summer. The gladiator sandal is something that you either love or hate – and I LOVE this look. These sandals look so amazing with anything that shows a little leg. A romper or dress is ideal for the high gladiator sandal, but if the dramatics of the high sandal intimidate you – go for the short sandal. It’s just as chic, but not nearly as bold.

The Kimono: I’ve seen this style worn a multitude of different ways and it all works. A kimono is a fun way to add a little something to an outfit. My favorite way I’ve seen this worn is with shorts and sandals or cowboy boots.

The Chiffon Short: Denim shorts are something that every girl has in their closet so why not mix it up with a pair of shorts that have a little something different to offer? Jean shorts are great, but you cannot beat the comfort and versatility of a pair of chiffon shorts. My favorite thing this staple has to offer is that they are the statement piece of your outfit.

All of these pieces you can find at reasonable prices just about anywhere, but if you like what is pictured, I have it listed below where you can find all of them!

Hopefully you’ll go out and find exactly what your closet is missing!

xx,

Jordan
